METABOLIC PREDICTORS OF DIASTOLIC HEART FAILURE

Principal Investigator: Wilson S. Colucci, MD

This is an NIH collaborative grant which characterizes biomarkers found in blood and tissue of subjects with metabolic heart disease and determines their relationship to left ventricular diastolic dysfunction, arterial stiffening, heart failure, and the known risk factors for these clinical phenotypes in humans.  Subjects will be recruited from three test populations – those with normal heart function; normal heart function and no symptoms but at increased risk of developing diastolic dysfunction (i.e. metabolic syndrome); and those with diastolic dysfunction.
