Subscribe to Calendars

To subscribe to a calendar on your device, please follow the appropriate directions below. You may be able to just copy the link to the appropriate calendar below (the first of each below), open it in a new window, and subscribe in Apple iCal or Microsoft Outlook, but it will likely not be quite as simple on Google Calendar, iPhone, Blackberry, Android or other smart phone. Explicit instructions are available for some devices below if clicking on the link below doesn’t work.

Device/Application Instructions

Please use the appropriate instructions below when subscribing to the official Google Calendars. If you believe there is an error, please contact us to let us know. If you do not see your device or application here and would like instructions, please also contact us to request that it be added below.

iPhone/iPod Touch

For the first solution, you will need OS 3.0 or higher installed. The easiest way to get this calendar on your phone is to email the webcal link to your class calendar to yourself. When you open the email on your phone and click the link, you will be asked if you want to subscribe to the calendar. Click “subscribe” and you will be all set.

Alternatively, or if you don’t have OS 3.0 or higher on your device, you can install an alternative calendar application onto your iPhone, such as my personal favorite CalenGoo, which allows you to access your Google Calendar account directly. If you wish to do something like this, please follow the instructions for subscribing using Google Calendar below.

One final way is to use Google Sync. See the Google Sync homepage for the latest updates on how to setup the iPhone. You will need a Google account and to have subscribed to the calendar from that Google Calendar account.

Blackberry

Syncing with the Blackberry can sometimes be more tricky. The easiest way is to sign up for a Google Account and to then use Google Sync. If you have found another more effective way to subscribe to the calendar on your Blackberry, please let us know using the contact us section of this site.

iCal

With most new versions of iCal you should be able to just click the appropriate link above to your class calendar and iCal will open to ask if you want to subscribe. If this does not happen, please follow these steps:

  1. Copy the appropriate calendar link above.
  2. Open iCal.
  3. Click “calendar > subscribe” from the iCal menu bar.
  4. Paste in the link you copied in step 1.
  5. Press subscribe.
  6. Set auto-refresh to at least every day. If you don’t, updates to the calendar will not show up in iCal unless you manually refresh the calendar.

Outlook

If you have Outlook 2007 installed, you should just need to click the appropriate link above and it Outlook will prompt you to subscribe. At the prompt, Add this Internet Calendar to Outlook and subscribe to updates, click Yes.

The Internet Calendar opens in side-by-side view in the Outlook Calendar and is added to the Navigation Pane in Calendar view under Other Calendars. The calendar will check periodically for any updates made by the calendar publisher.

Google Calendar

If you use Google Calendar as your main calendar application, consider downloading an application such as CalenGoo, mentioned earlier, which gives you full access to your calendars on your iPhone. To add the calendar to your Google Calendar account follow these steps:

  1. Copy the appropriate calendar link above, starting with http, not webcal.
  2. Open Google Calendar.
  3. On the left side under “Other calendars” click “Add >Add by URL”.
  4. Paste the link into the box.
  5. Click “Add” and wait for up to a few minutes.

Android

To subscribe to the calendar on your Android based phone (e.g. T-Mobile G1 or myTouch), you first need to subscribe to the appropriate calendar in the Google Calendar account that is associated with your phone. Since all Android phones need to have an associated Google account, this should not be a problem. Once you have subscribed, the calendar should appear in the native phone calendar application.
