Research Highlights
The Fisher laboratory has just published an article showing that feedback-inhibited form of the Bacillus subtilis glutamine synthetase acts as a molecular chaperone which activates GlnR DNA binding by transiently interacting with GlnR-DNA complexes and stabilizing their structure. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. (USA) 105:1014-9, 2008.
Jack Murphy’s group has identified the COPI coatomer complex proteins as cellular components that facilitate the translocation of anthrax toxin lethal factor across endosomal membranes to the cytosol. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. (USA) 105:5254-9, 2008.
The Nikolajczyk lab has identified an unexpected biphasic mechanism activating IL-1 beta transcription. Based on the demonstration that IL-1 beta over-expression is involved in many inflammatory diseases, this analysis presents new opportunities for blocking the increased IL-1 beta production that often drives inflammation. J. Immunol. 181:503-12, 2008.
