Dr. Ciraulo is Professor and Chairman, Division of Psychiatry, at Boston University School of Medicine. He is Psychiatrist-in-Chief at Boston Medical Center. He is also a Lecturer on Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and a Lecturer in Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics at Tufts University School of Medicine.

His research interests focus on addiction psychopharmacology. Dr. Ciraulo is the Principal Investigator on the National Institute on Drug Abuse and The Boston University School of Medicine Medication Development for Stimulants Center, and the Principal Investigator on the National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse grant supporting the Boston University Clinical Research Unit for Alcoholism Treatment. These projects examine the role of medications and psychosocial therapies in the treatment of alcoholism and addiction.

Dr. Ciraulo has authored or co-authored more than one hundred papers and book chapters as well as four books. He has received several honors including the Harry Solomon Essay Award of the Massachusetts Mental Health Center. He has been listed in Woodward and White’s Best Doctors in America since 1992. He is the assistant editor of the Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology and on the editorial board of the American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse. He has served on several national committees to review treatment algorithms, medication development, FDA advisory panels, and research grant applications.

Dr. Ciraulo received his MD from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He was a resident in Psychiatry at the Institute of Living in Hartford, Connecticut, chief resident in the Somatic Therapies Unit at Massachusetts Mental Health Center, and a clinical fellow in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
