Faculty Development Grants – Application Elements

A. Applicant credentials (2-4 page maximum)

Or

  • Executive Summary of teaching, scholarship, administrative, and clinical care activities relevant to present application

Or

  • Resume – 2-4 pages maximum

B. Application (1-2 pages total)

1. Weblink for program.

2. Overall program objective. (0.2 page)

  • Succinct 2-3 sentence summary of the proposed faculty development opportunity.

3. Description of the proposed faculty development opportunity and what do you want to get out of it? (0.5 page)

  • Applicants are encouraged to summarize the educational programs and are discouraged    from attaching the complete materials, entire catalogue, etc.
  • How will the training opportunity benefit your career goals?
  • Optional – for Associate or Full Professors – do you envision the training offering broader benefit to BUMC, BUSM, DOM, or section through newly acquired skills?

4. Reporting back.  (1 sentence)

  • If the opportunity is funded, upon completion the applicant agrees to write a one paragraph program evaluation, to be posted with the applicant’s email address on the DOM website so that other DOM members can learn about the opportunity.

5. Detailed Budget. (0.25-0.5 page)

  • Cost breakdown by element – course fee, materials, travel, lodging, etc

C. Support from Section

1. Letter from Section Chief or Mentor should outline the following

  • Section Support – types of support could be the following:
  • Financial support for the training opportunity (typically ⅓ to ½ of the cost)
  • Relief from clinical, educational or administrative duties
  • How the faculty and their training will benefit the division.
  • Mentoring plan – (Recommended for Instructors and Assistant Professors)
