Summary of academic interest:
Dr. McComb is a Research Assistant Professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) and the Director of the Cardiovascular Proteomics Center (CPC) Core Research Laboratory part of the BUSM Center for Biomedical Mass Spectrometry. The CPC is one of 7 National Heart Lung and Blood Institute Proteomics Centers. Dr. McComb has authored/co-authored more than 40 peer-review publications, reviews and textbook chapters and has over 180 conference proceedings including many as invited speaker. Dr. McComb is an active member of the Human Proteome Organization (HUPO) whose mission is to characterize the entire human proteome. Dr. McComb’s research aims are directed towards the identification and characterization of differentially expressed proteins and differentially observed peptides and post-translational modifications (PTMs) associated with markers of huma! n disease with an emphasis directed towards cardiovascular disease. His laboratory focuses on applying mass spectrometry-based proteomics technology for the identification and characterization of proteins which may be perturbed by disease mechanism in-vivo. By studying these proteins and PTMs the aim is to identify patterns of changes and PTM events in order to gain a global comprehensive understanding of disease progression. Identification of specific proteins and PTMs which change as a function of disease will lead to the development of diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers which will have tremendous clinical utility.
