MD/PhD Combined Degree Dean’s Scholarship
The Division of Graduate Medical Sciences provides a fully funded financial aid package for all MD/PhD Candidates matriculating in fall 2010. The Dean’s Scholarship includes full medical school and graduate school tuition:
- Year 1, BUSM I: The student will have tuition covered by our enhanced financial aid package. This represents a scholarship amount of $46,488 based upon the 2009-2010 medical school tuition charges. (The 2009-2010 medical school tuition is $46,488. The 2010-2011 tuition charge will be announced in March 2010.) Not included in this figure is the Medical School fee charge and health insurance.
If the student withdraws from the Ph.D. portion of the program, the scholarship must be repaid.
- Year 2, BUSM II: The student will have tuition covered by our enhanced financial aid package. This represents a scholarship amount of $46,488 based upon the 2009-2010 medical school tuition charges. (The 2009-2010 medical school tuition is $46,488.) Not included in this figure is the Medical School fee charge and health insurance.
If the student withdraws from the Ph.D. portion of the program, the scholarship must be repaid.
In addition to the above scholarship, in the summer between the first and second year of BUSM, if the student participates in 8-10 weeks of summer research, he/she may earn a $4,000 stipend.
- Year 3 – 5, Graduate Study/Ph.D. Years: All candidates in the program are guaranteed both stipend and necessary tuition for degree requirements. The 2009-2010 Division of Graduate Medical Sciences graduate student stipends will be at the rate of $30,500/ calendar year ($31,500 after passing qualifying exams.) In addition, health insurance is also paid during the Ph.D. years of study.
- Year 6 – 7, BUSM III & IV: When a student has completed the dissertation requirements, including defending and submitting his/her thesis they will return to the medical school curriculum. Tuition will be covered for BUSM III and BUSM IV due to our enhanced financial aid package. This represents a scholarship amount of $92,976. (The 2009-2010 medical school tuition is $46,488. The 2010-2011 medical school tuition will be announced in March 2010.)
TOTAL VALUE OF AID PACKAGE: Approximately $434,371 ($185,952 medical school scholarship, $248,419 graduate school scholarship, stipend, and health insurance based upon 3.5 years).
