SAS Virtual Machine
If your computer is running an operation system not supported by SAS you can use the SAS Virtual Machine.
This requires the installations of Oracle’s Virtual Box. The virtual machine is an installation of BU Linux version 6 with a version of SAS pre-installed
Downloads
- Download Virtual Box for Windows or OS X depend which OS your computer is running at the follow website https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

- Download the OVA file for the version of SAS you would like
Install & configure SAS Virtual Machine for OS X
- Double click on the Virtual Box download from your downloads folder (See Downloads Section)

- Then double click on the “VirtualBox.mpkg”

- Click “Continue”

- Click “Continue”

- Click “Continue” again

- Click “Install”

- Enter your Mac password (the password you use to login to your computer)

- Once the install completes click “Close”

- Then Open your Applications folder either from the Virtual Box installer or from within finder

- Drag the “VirtualBox” Application to your Dock to make it easier to open

- Click on the Virtual Box Icon

- From the menu at the top of the screen click “File” -> “Import Appliance”

- Click “Open appliance”

- Browse to your downloads folder or where you downloaded the SAS Ova file to (See downloads section) and selet it then press “Open”

- Press “Continue”

- Check the box “Reinitialize the MAC address of all network cards” then click “Import”

- Wait for the import to complete, may take 10-20 minutes depending on your computer

- Once the virtual machine has been imported, select it from the list on the left then click “Settings”

- Select the “Shared Folder” tab at the top then the folder icon with the +

- Click on the down arrow on the folder path then select “Other”

- Select the folder you would like to have available from with-in the virtual machine, it is recommended to choose your home folder, documents, or downloads folder. Then click “Choose”

- Name the folder name “share” THIS IS IMPORTANT if you select a different name it will not work. Then check the boxes for “Auto-mount” and “Make Permanent” then click “OK”

- Then select the virtual machine from the list on the left then click “Start”

- If you see the following message just check the box “Do not show this message again” then press “OK”

- Wait for the virtual machine to start up should only take a few minutes

- To launch SAS double click on “Start SAS”

- Click “Run”

- SAS is now running

- When you are done running SAS you can close the virtual machine window and instead of shutting it down you can select suspend that way next time you open the virtual machine it will launch quicker
Install & configure SAS Virtual Machine for Windows
- Double click on the virtual box download (See download section )

- Click “Run” on the Security Warning box if it pops up

- Click “Next”

- Click “Next”

- Click “Next”

- Click “Yes”

- Click “Install”

- If you are running Windows 7 or Vista click “Yes” on the User Account Control box

- Click “Finish”

- Virtual Box will open click “File” then “Import Appliance”

- Click “Open appliance”

- Browse to the location that you downloaded the SAS Ova file (see download section) then select the file then click “Open”

- Click “Next”

- Check the “Reinitialize the MAC address of all network cards” then click “Import”

- Wait for the appliance to import may take 10-20 minutes to complete

- Select the virtual machine that just imported then click “Settings”

- Click on the “Shared Folders” tab then click on the add folder button on the right

- Click on the drop down arrow then select “Other”

- Browse to the folder that you would to share to the virtual machine, it is recommended that you select your user folder, that will contain your Desktop, My Documents, and Download folders then press “OK”

- Name the folder name “shared” DO NOT NAME it something else otherwise it will not work, then check the “Auto-mount” box then click “OK”

- Click “OK”

- Select the virtual machine then click “Start”

- Wait for the virtual machine to start up should only take a few minutes

- To start SAS double click on “Start SAS”

- Then click “Run” on the popup box

- SAS is now running

- When you are done will SAS you can close the virtual machine Window and it will ask you what to do with the virtual machine select “Save the machine state” that way when you use SAS again it will start up faster
