VPN Upgrade Notes

VPN Network Maintenance – March 13, 2016 – 12AM – 4AM:

VPN UPDATE:  We have received one report from a client that “work2.bumc.bu.edu” did not work for them as originally stated below.  However, they were able to log on by typing “vpn.bumc.bu.edu” in the AnyConnect client dialog box.

On March 13, Network Services Group will be upgrading the VPN servers at the BUMC.   This upgrade will allow our group to continue supporting and providing VPN service to the BUMC community.   Between the hours of 12AM to 4AM, connections to the VPN (work2.bumc.bu.edu) may be unreachable.   Once this work has been completed, you may notice some changes to the naming convention of the VPN service.   To better streamline with the CRC VPN, we will be introducing “vpn.bumc.bu.edu” as an option to connecting to “work2.bumc.bu.edu”.  Please note: “work2.bumc.bu.edu” WILL continue to function even after this upgrade has been completed. No changes to the VPN client is required at this time, “work2.bumc.bu.edu” will redirect to the new “vpn.bumc.bu.edu” name automatically.

In the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client, the populated drop down group selections will automatically be updated to reflect this naming change once you establish a connection to the new VPN server.   If you have any questions or concerns about this change, please contact the BUMC IT HelpDesk at 617-638-5914 or email the Network Services Group at bumcnetworks@bu.edu.
