Please join us in welcoming back Brian Gerdon to the BUMC IT team. Brian started off as a student employee years ago.  When he graduated BU he worked as a full time staff member in the networking group under Graham Ward.  Brian receved several promotions in his time at BU eventually becoming the Manager of Networking Engineering and Operations at BUMC.  Brian left BU to become the IT Director for a local startup.  Brian returns to BU in his new role serving as the BUMC IT Security Officer.  Brian will become the point person for all things security at BUMC.  He will work closely with his CRC associates to maintain a unified, one BU attitude while acknowledging some of the uniqueness of BUMC.

Earlier this month Eran Spira joined our team at BUMC IT as Client Support Specialist.

Eran was a student employee at Berklee Student Computer Support Center where he provided Level 1 & 2 support on a wide variety of issues on Apple devices. Prior to that he worked for several years at BUG MultiSystem, the largest retail chain in Israel of computer and IT products. While at the company he performed a variety of tasks including hardware and software troubleshooting, repair, and installation for a predominantly PC user base and was later promoted to branch manager.

He is enrolled at Berklee College of Music studying contemporary writing and production. Eran hopes to complete his BA this May. Give him a call at the Service Desk and say hi!

Welcome, Zoë!

BUMC IT Client Services is proud to welcome Zoë Hayden as our new Computer Support Specialist. Zoë is a recent Emerson College graduate with a BFA in writing, literature and publishing. While at Emerson, Zoë worked at the Emerson IT Help Desk as Student Manager, assisting faculty, staff, and students with a wide range of IT issues and more recently as a Support Specialist for lab operations at Emerson, working on imaging and supporting all classrooms and computer lab machines.

In addition Zoë is a huge hockey fan and passionately writes about her favorite hockey team the Pittsburgh Penguins on a blog called Puck Huffers. Lets hope she adopts the BU Terriers as her new favorite College Hockey team with no NHL hockey currently!

We are please to announce that Ryan Turcotte  joined the Client Services team as our newest Computer Support Specialist on Monday, October 22nd, 2012.  Ryan is a ’10 graduate of Amherst College where he received his B.A in Computer Science. During his undergrad days Ryan was a student worker in the Amherst Desktop Computing Services area where he perfected his IT support skills.  After graduation Ryan was awarded a position as the Kermes Technology Fellow, allowing him to work for Amherst College Desktop Services full time for the last two years. While not fixing and repairing computers, Ryan likes to play guitar and is a huge  ”car enthusiast.”  Please join us in welcoming Ryan to BUMC IT and to Boston University.

We are pleased to announce that Alexander Kindzerske has accepted the position of Computer Support Specialist and joined BUMC IT on Monday May 21, 2012.

Alex comes to us from the Apple Store in the South Shore Plaza where he worked as an Apple Genius where he was certified to repair all types of Apple products. Prior to that Alex worked as a Student Support Consultant while studying at Berklee College of Music.  Alex majored in both Contemporary Writing and Production as well as Music Production and Engineering.  He continues to be active in music production.  Please join us in welcoming Alex to BUMC IT and to Boston University.

BUMC Director of IT Announced

Tracy Schroeder, VP for Information Services & Technology, and I are delighted to announce that Robert Sprinkle, MS, will become the new Director of IT for BU Medical Campus, effective Jan. 3, 2012.

Most recently, Bobby served as the Sr. Director of IT Research Informatics and Systems at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York where he was responsible for information technology systems that supported bioinformatics, clinical research, basic/translational science and education. Prior to that appointment, Bobby served in a number of positions at the Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, Fla., including Supervisor of Computational Biology, Manager of Research IT Systems, Director of Research IT and Interim Co-CIO.

Bobby holds a master of science in management information systems and a bachelor of arts degree in history from the University of South Florida.

Welcome, Brooke!

We are please to announce that Brooke Eder joined BUMC IT on Monday, November 28, 2011. Brooke is a recent graduate of Quinnipiac University with a degree in Public Relations and minor in Computer Information Systems.  While at Quinnipiac, she worked at their help desk and became the lead student supervisor. She was recognized by Quinnipiac for her outstanding work in customer service and computer repairs. Brooke will be a Computer Support Specialist joining the Client Services team, working with James, Dan, and Charles resolving the numerous computer technology incidents as well as working on department projects.  Please join us in welcoming Brooke to BUMC IT and to Boston University.

We are happy to announce that Mike Harrison has accepted a position with BUMC IT in the role of Network Engineer I. Mike comes to the group with a background in client-services/desktop-support and network administration.  He also has CompTIA Network+ and Security+ certifications as well as a Cisco CCNA certification.  Mike will be helping out with daily operations and engineering projects while learning the campus infrastructure. Welcome, Matt Maderos: Associate Director of Client Services

Matt Maderos joined BUMC IT as the Associate Director of Client Services on April 4, 2011.

Matt comes to Boston University with over 15 years of experience managing client services and desktop support in higher education.  Matt has been with the Mass College of Art and Design for the past 6 years, most recently as their Assistant Director of Support Services.  At MassArt, Matt implemented Footprints as their ticketing system (which is the ticketing system currently used by BUMC IT), and created the first 9-5, fully-staffed helpdesk in support of their Mac- and PC-based community, which comprises over 2500 faculty, staff and students.

Prior to MassArt, Matt spent 12 years with Bridgewater State College where he managed desktop services and led a successfully implementation of their campus-wide student laptop initiative.  Matt started out as a support technician himself, and has experience managing computer labs, AV equipment, desktop applications and security policies.

Matt has a Master’s of Science in Management (with a concentration in Technology Management), and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science, both from Bridgewater State.  He’s been an active member of NERCOMP’s regional committee over the past 5 years, and has presented on implementing a ticketing system in several sessions.  In fact Matt provided his input and experience to BUMC IT prior to our own implementation of FootPrints.

Welcome Dan & Charles!

BUMC IT Client Services welcomes Dan Flynn and Charles Jahnke to the team as desktop support specialists. Both Charles and Dan come to us with previous University experience. Dan has been working as a student employee on the BUMC Client Services team for the past 1.5 years and Charles brings his experience from previously working at the IS&T IT Help Center, also in a student employment capacity. We’re looking forward to working with them as official and full time members of the team.
