Investigators from Charles River and BUMC working on the same protocol
As of October 14, 2010, the IRBs on both campuses of BU (Charles River Campus and Medical Campus) have merged under a single Federalwide Assurance. The “new” name on the Assurance is “BU/BMC”. The Federalwide Assurance number is FWA00000301 (the number previously assigned to the BUMC IRB). The new expiration date for the FWA is 10/14/2013.
Because the IRBs from CRC and BUMC are being combined under the same Federal Wide Assurance, it is no longer necessary to submit a Single IRB Review Request in order to list CRC investigators on your INSPIR applications. It is now acceptable to simply list the CRC investigators in Section A of INSPIR and indicate their role on the study. It is also not necessary to complete the Single IRB Review Request in order for CRC investigators to list BUMC investigators on their research protocols.
** Note: If the PI is from CRC, then protocols should still be submitted to the CRC IRB. If the PI is from BUMC, then the protocol should still be submitted to the BUMC IRB (via INSPIR). The only exception to this is that any new CRC studies involving investigational drugs and devices will be submitted to the BUMC IRB.
