The Healer’s Art

The Healer’s Art is a spring semester elective directed towards first and second year medical students that addresses the human dimension of medicine over five evening sessions. Each three hour session is divided into a large-group and small-group experience. Small groups are facilitated by  medical school physicians. Each session builds upon the insights and content of the previous session. Major themes of the course include:

  • Sustaining idealism and altruism
  • Medicine as a calling
  • Cultivating compassion
  • Healing loss
  • Learning tools to prevent stress and burnout
