Sue Kim Hanson Lectureship in Immunology

On September 11, 2001, Sue Kim Hanson, a graduate student in the Immunology Training Program, her husband, Pete, and 2-year-old daughter, Christine, were passengers on the United Airlines flight that crashed into the second World Trade Center tower. She had worked for Dr. Kornfeld for eleven years, first as a technician, then as a Ph.D. candidate, and was only two months from completion of her thesis at the time of her death. Her degree was awarded posthumously to her family at Commencement in May 2002.

An annual lectureship has been endowed in her name, to be given on or around September 11 each year. Contributions to the “Sue Kim Hanson” endowment fund may be sent to the Boston University Medical Center Development Office.
