After Residency

hugWe invest ourselves in the success of our housestaff. The Program Office specializes in career development. Individual counseling and assistance is available in order to prepare each resident’s portfolio of teaching, research and clinical activities for life beyond residency.

The graduates of Boston University medical residencies include major figures in academic medicine and the clinical practice community. Current house officers are graduates of over 50 American schools. They are interesting and challenging young professionals with diverse interests, backgrounds, and career goals. They are individuals with high standards for personal accomplishment and a willingness to devote themselves to the care of their patients and to their own education. New house officers can be assured of an exciting, varied, and supportive program that will serve as the foundation for a lifetime of professional growth. Most of our recent graduates seek additional training in subspecialty or general internal medicine fellowships. A growing number are entering academic primary care, general internal medicine practice, hospitalist, or community practice careers.

The Department of Medicine of Boston University School of Medicine offers clinical and research fellowships in virtually every area of internal medicine. Subspecialty consultation is available to house officers at all times. In addition, house officers participate in subspecialty services, and may choose to become involved in research. Of those choosing to apply to fellowship programs, our graduates have been highly competitive with top programs across the country.
