Hematology Training Program

Welcome to the webpage for the Boston University Medical Center “Research Training Program in Blood Diseases and Resources,” T32HL07501. This is an interdepartmental training program designed to train predoctoral PhD degree candidates and postdoctoral MDs, PhDs, and MD, PhDs in hematology related research. The program has been in existence at Boston University Medical Center for 27 years, and provides a superb training experience in this exciting field. Participating faculty are based in the Departments of Medicine (Sections of Hematology-Oncology and Vascular Biology), Biochemistry, and Pathology. Predoctoral candidates must apply through the Division of Graduate Medical Sciences and participate in a degree granting department or program including Molecular Medicine, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology and Pharmacology.

Research Areas of Excellence

Faculty research interests and programs focus upon diverse areas of hematology research. Fields of particular interest include sickle cell anemia, based in the NHLBI-funded Sickle Cell Center; amyloidosis, based in the NHLBI-funded Amyloidosis Treatment & Research Program; hematologic malignancies, based in the Cancer Research Center and in the Section of Hematology-Oncology, particularly including an active program in cutaneous T cell lymphoma and CLL; vascular biology, through an NIH-funded Cardiovascular Proteomics Center and megakaryopoiesis and hematologic stem cells.
