Medical Care and Insurance

Health insurance coverage is required of all PA students. This coverage must include hospitalization and medication coverage. Proof of coverage must be made to the BU Student Health Service.  With the exception of an emergency situation, the PA faculty (principal faculty, medical director and the program director) are not permitted to provide medical care to the PA students.

In the course of the clinical education, there are times when students may be exposed to infectious agents and environmental hazards.  At the beginning of the Clinical Practicum, students will be trained to prevent exposure to health hazards as required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.  These sessions are mandatory. In the event that a student is exposed to a health hazard they are encouraged to seek care at the BU Student Health Service. If they are on rotation away from the Charles River Campus, they should go to the nearest health care provider which may be the emergency room.  More information is available in the Clinical Handbook and on the E-value site information. Treatment for these exposures will be covered by the student health insurance.
