Selwyn Broitman, Ph.D., M.S.P.H., F.A.C.G.

Dr. Broitman trained with the Harvard Gastroenterology Research group at Thorndike on the wards and at the Mallory Institute of Pathology at Boston City Hospital. He subsequently directed GI fellows in translational research. Later, Dr. Broitman joined the BUSM Microbiology Deptartment, maintained a fully funded lab and Training Grant and taught in 11 courses. A member of BUSM Admissions since 1975, he helped institute and serves on several undergraduate and minority admissions programs. Instrumental in developing the M.A. in Medical Science program, he was appointed Assistant Dean of GMS in 1985 and Director of the M.D,/Ph.D. program. Dr. Broitman served as a Study Section Member of the National Large Bowel Cancer Project, National Cancer Institute and American Cancer Society. He was on the Editorial Boards of Gastroenterology, The American Journal of Gastroenterology, The Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry, and the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. As a committee member of the National Academy of Science, he co-authored the book “Diet, Nutrition and Cancer.” To date, Dr. Broitman has published over 200 papers, reports and books on the relationship of the gut microbial flora to disease, nutrition, histology and pathology and other subjects.
