Graduate Outcomes

Boston University’s Genetic Counseling program offers access to tremendous resources for clinical experience and laboratory genetic services located within an academic medical center in New England.

Graduate outcomes for the past three years include the following:

  • 97% of students have graduated on time.
  • 94% of students who enter the program graduate.
  • Overall, the program has a 97% ABGC certification exam pass rate during this timeframe: 74% of recent graduates passed the ABGC certification exam on first attempt and 100% have passed the ABGC certification exam who have completed a second attempt.
  • 100% of recent graduates are employed within 3 months of graduation with their job of choice.

The Genetic Counseling profession is regulated nationally by the American Board of Genetic Counselors, Inc. (ABGC). In order to become certified as a Certified Genetic Counselor, applicants must have a Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from a program that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling, Inc. (ACGC). Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine’s Master of Science in Genetic Counseling Program is accredited by the ACGC and thereby meets the academic requirements for national certification as a Certified Genetic Counselor.
