2013 Doctoral Graduates

The Division of Graduate Medical Sciences is pleased to announce this year’s plans for the School of Medicine Commencement Ceremony for the MD, MD/PhD, and PhD candidates to be held at the Agganis Arena on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 10:00 am. We look forward to helping you celebrate your academic achievements.

Following are the schedule of events, as well as other important information regarding this year’s Commencement. Please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Caitlin Sleasman (sleasman@bu.edu) if you need any additional information.

Regardless of whether you plan to participate in the commencement ceremony, all graduates  must complete the 2013 PhD Commencement Preparation & Information form The extended deadline to complete this form is Monday, April 8th . *Please note that failure to complete the attendance form by this deadline may prevent you from participating in the commencement ceremony and/or your name not being published in the commencement program.ednesday, March 27th to indicate their future plans and attendance at the BUSM Commencement .

CLASS of 2013 MEETING

There will be a Class of 2013 Meeting on Friday, March 8, 2013 from 12:00p.m.–1:00p.m in room L-804.  The Class Meeting for graduating Ph.D. and M.D./Ph.D. degree candidates will select a student commencement speaker and hear more details about commencement. Please RSVP to Ms. Caitlin Sleasman (617-638-5123) by Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Lunch will be served.

ORDER REGALIA:

Everyone who participates in an academic ceremony at the Commencement Ceremony must wear a cap and gown. The cost to rent  the complete doctoral package is $95.

Online ordering is now closed. Please contact the BU Barnes & Noble directly at regalia@bu.edu to order your regalia.

Pick-up of previous online orders will be available on April 28th if the “ship to store” option was selected. Please contact the bookstore at regalia@bu.edu with any questions. We recommend you not wait till the last minute to insure your sizes is available.

Please note that all rentals must be returned prior to May 23 to avoid late charges, and transcripts will be withheld by the University from any student failing to return rental items.

An PhD regalia rental will include:

Red Gown with Black chevrons on the sleeves, a Dark Blue PhD hood,  a black cap, one gold tassel

An MD-PhD regalia rental will include:

Red Gown with Black chevrons on the sleeves, a Dark Blue PhD hood, a Kelly green MD hood,  a black cap, one gold tassel

FACULTY HOODERS

Please ask your PI or faculty hooder if they are able to attend commencement and would be able to hood you.  They must also order faculty regalia  by Friday, April 5th. All faculty regalia orders must be ordered directly through the BU Barnes & Noble Bookstore, regalia@bu.edu

*If your hooder is not a BU faculty member, they must order regalia through the website http://www1.herffjones.com/capgown/facultydirect/ by Friday, April 5th.  The cost of a full set of regalia for non-BU faculty is approximately $88.

The January Graduation Workshop slides and the recent Registrar email for May doctoral graduates are available on the student forms page.

UPDATE PERSONAL INFORMATION STATUS:

  • Students should update their personal information on student link.
  • Completion of the  commencement attendance form through student link is for all University Commencement ONLY.  If you are attending only BUSM’s MD/PhD ceremony you do NOT need to complete the online attendance form.

TRANSPORTATION AND PARKING:

MBTA Green Line stop: Pleasant St. on B (Boston College Line) - Outbound
Parking: Free parking available at  Agganis Arena (925 Commonwealth Avenue).  Additional parking along Commonwealth Ave./BU Lots also free of charge

DISABILITY SERVICES:

Beginning April 1st, you can request accessible seating, parking, or other accommodations for yourself or for any of your guests attending the BUSM Commencement by visiting the Disability Services website and by completing a Disability Accommodations request form.

OUTSTANDING STUDENT ACCOUNT BALANCE:

In order to attend the GMS Commencement on May 18, 2013, students must complete payment of their account balances with Student Accounting Services by April 30, 2013, as well as complete their academic requirements. The University will make every attempt to ensure that diplomas are awarded at the GMS Commencement to students who have met academic requirements, but have not completed payment of their account balances until after April 30, 2012. However, this cannot be guaranteed.
