The Julie Fund Award
The Julie Fund Award
The Julie Fund was initiated to provide annual award to a graduating candidate for a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD at Boston University School of Medicine who makes an outstanding contribution in nutritional research, including genomics, metabolism, obesity and epidemiology. It is anticipated that it will highlight the need for intensive studies in those vital areas of nutrition that are directly causal or contributory to more than two thirds of the fatalities annually in the United States.
The fund honors the memory of Julie Ann Feldman. Julie’s friends describe her as a giving, caring person, who, no matter how busy her schedule, always found the time to help a friend in need. It was those qualities of kindness, reaching out to the less fortunate, openness, and trust, which endeared her to friends and co-workers.
Her townhouse became a gathering place for numerous friends and acquaintances that sought her out for her acumen in many areas her sage advice about personal or everyday matters, or for merely spending the time in a collegial atmosphere. Bright, witty, congenial, she possessed an analytical mind and uncommon common sense that enabled her to focus on the heart of a problem quickly and derive a workable solution. Julie’s artistic ability and sense of design was also an area that kept her “on call” to friends and associates. She was the joy of her parents, her brother and his wife, the love of her niece and nephew and the delight of the rest of her family.
Julie attended Newton schools, studied business at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, was a cost analyst at a major electric company, and served in a number of community positions.
For consideration, interested graduating medical and graduate students should submit a one- to two-page abstract of their research for evaluation to:
