Deferment of Student Loans
Deferment of Student Loans
Post-doctoral fellows or associates are eligible for deferment of student loans by completing the loan deferment form.
BU Procedure:
- Post-doctoral associate submits to his/her School Financial Aid ( and/or Office of Post-Doctoral Affairs) the deferment form, a copy of the post-doctoral appointment letter with full-time appointment period, and a supporting letter from his/her faculty mentor in which the objectives of the mentored post-doctoral training are identified – establishing compliance with form section 7. The dates of the requested deferment as specified on the form should match or at least not excel the post-doctoral appointment period.
- School Financial Aid Office (or Associate Dean, or Post-doctoral Affairs Officer) signs the form and gives the postdoc a statement including the University’s definition of a post-doctoral position and institutional support for loan deferral. Copies of everything should be kept on file.
- Postdoc submits the loan deferral form and the University statement to lender/clearing house.
