Ph.D. and M.D./Ph.D. Degree Programs
Welcome to the PhD and MD/PhD combined degree programs administered by the Division of Graduate Medical Sciences.
Recently we introduced a new integrated 1st year PhD curriculum entitled “Foundations in Biomedical Sciences or FIBS” for many participating Ph.D. programs/departments.
Students have broad options when it comes to graduate training at BUSM. They can choose an in depth study of a particular discipline within one of the outstanding departments at BUMC that offers the PhD
- Anatomy and Neurobiology*
- Biochemistry
- Biophysics
- Microbiology
- Oral Biology
- Pathology & Laboratory Medicine
- Pharmacology & Experimental Therapeutics
- Physiology
or choose an interdepartmental program that emphasizes interdisciplinary training.
- Behavioral Neuroscience
- Biomedical Neuroscience
- Cell and Molecular Biology
- Genetics and Genomics
- Immunology Training Program
- Medical Nutrition Sciences
- Molecular Medicine
For those students who are particularly interested in a larger university-wide training experience, there are PhD granting programs that unite students and faculty across the campuses (BUMC and Charles River (CRC)).
- Graduate Program in Bioinformatics (administered by GRS/CRC)
- Graduate Program for Neuroscience (administered by GMS/BUMC)
Interdisciplinary Training Programs are also available following admission to a degree granting department or program.
Additional programs of study:
- Combined Doctor of Optometry (OD) and PhD degree is also available in conjunction with The New England College of Optometry (NECO).
- * A Vesalius “Certificate” is also available to PhD students in the Anatomy and Neurobiology department.
