Message from the Associate Provost

hyman1A Message from Linda E. Hyman, PhD, Associate Provost

Welcome to the Division of Graduate Medical Sciences at Boston University. As the new Associate Provost and Dean for the Division, it is my distinct pleasure to lead the way to what I am sure will be a productive and enjoyable experience in your graduate education. As the newest member of the BUSM team I am fascinated by the talent, accomplishments and credentials of our students. I am also proud to be working at an institution that values the quality programs that are offered through the Division. Whether you are a student interested in our Master’s programs, a PhD student focused on the biomedical sciences or an MD/PhD student in for the long haul, you will find BUSM to be a most welcoming place. This is due, at least in part, to two main factors – our faculty and our staff. The staff in the office of the Division, are very experienced and always willing to help in anyway (help register, find the right financial aid, assist in your thesis preparation, to name just a few things we do here). In addition, the faculty is amazing – they somehow manage to do it all- they are true scholars, great teachers and willing to guide you through the curriculum and beyond. Finally you are joining a community of graduate students almost 1000 strong! Your peers and colleagues at BU are an accomplished and knowledgeable group who will provide additional support and camaraderie, not to mention advice on all that Boston has to offer.

You have chosen to make an investment in your education in challenging times. We recognize and celebrate that, because we firmly believe that this is an experience that will more than pay off in practical and professional ways. The Division of Graduate Medical Sciences will work hard to make your tenure here at BU productive and stimulating. I wish you luck in your efforts and look forward to meeting you all in person.
