Outdoor Research Facility

Boston University’s Forensic Science Field Station

The program in Forensic Anthropology is fortunate to have the opportunity to collaborate with the Professional Studies in Applied Forensic Sciences & Criminal Investigations and the Biomedical Forensic Science programs on the development of an outdoor research and teaching facility known as the Forensic Science Field Station.

Located on 32 acres in Holliston, Massachusetts, the Forensic Science Field Station provides unique opportunities for students and faculty members to conduct research projects and present courses on a variety of topics including:

  • Outdoor Crime Scene Investigation
  • Forensic Photography
  • Recovery of Skeletal Remains
  • Total Station Mapping Techniques
  • Forensic Anthropology

Resources located on the property include a ranch-style house with classroom facilities, several small sheds, a large kennel, cranberry bogs, wooded areas and several open fields. To date the Forensic Science Field Station has not only been used for student research activities, but as a training facility for local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, as well.

Students interested in completing research projects at the facility must submit a a research proposal to the Graduate Student Committee for review.  Transportation to and from the facility is the responsibility of the student.
