Grunebaum Faculty Cancer Research Fellowship

The Grunebaum Faculty Cancer Research Fellowship, a BUSM annual award, provides $36,000 in direct costs to a selected faculty member in the BU School of Medicine for a period of one year.

In addition, upon request, the Karin Grunebaum Cancer Research Foundation will separately provide up to $1,500 for the selected faculty member to travel to seminars and
conventions related to their research.

Candidates must be “a BUSM faculty member who is in the first 5 years of a faculty appointment, in laboratory or translational research
in cancer.”

The previous year’s Grunebaum Faculty Research Fellowship Awardee may apply for a second year and will be evaluated in competition with the other applications received.
To nominate a candidate, please submit by April 15, 2013:

  • a one page Departmental Chairperson’s nomination letter,
  • the Candidate’s one page description of their current research, and
  • the Candidate’s full CV

The recipient will meet with the Trustees of the Karin Grunebaum Cancer Research Foundation (in Boston), both at the start of their Fellowship and at its conclusion, to
provide the Trustees with reports on the status of their research. All research publications shall credit the Karin Grunebaum Cancer Research Foundation.

The recipient will be chosen by a scientific review committee chaired by the Grunebaum Professor and Trustee Dr. Douglas Faller, in consultation with a second Grunebaum Trustee (Dean and Provost Dr. Karen Antman).
