Item Discussion Action
Faculty development grants Faculty members can apply every two years. Grant applications approved. Peter Cahn will inform faculty members.
Friday afternoon socials Friday, January 27 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in Wilkins. Will schedule for February and March as well.

At the first one, have attendees write their name and what profession they would choose other than physician or scientist.

Post paper where participants can leave feedback on:

  • Venue and format of social gatherings
  • Faculty development content offerings
  • Ideas for communicating with leadership
Peter Cahn will schedule the next two social events.

At the January event, he will provide nametags and post-it notes for feedback.

Walk and talk The first casual gathering will be on Wednesday, January 25 at 5:30 p.m. led by Matt Russell.

Volunteers agreed to lead future walks.

Jane Liebschutz and Sharon Levine will lead a walk on Thursday, February 16 at 12:00 p.m.

Michael Ieong and Emelia Benjamin will lead a walk on Monday, March 12 at 5:30 p.m.

Diversity brainstorming Devote the majority of a future meeting to brainstorming ways to increase representation of minorities on the faculty.

We should work the Associate Dean for Diversity and Multicultural Affairs as well as BMC’s minority physician recruiter to think creatively about a long-term plan to identify talented medical students and residents that we’d like to retain.

Avoid tokenism or quotas. Think creatively about mentoring networks, faculty consultancies to support faculty once they are here.

Peter Cahn will invite Rafael Ortega and Justin McCummings to a future meeting to help draft a five-year plan.
