Characterizing the COPD and IPF transcriptome using RNA sequencing. Chronic lung diseases affect a significant portion of the population, the incidence of COPD/emphysema and idiopathic interstitial pneumonia (IIP) are increasing annually. The clinical course and response to therapy are difficult for the clinician to predict. In this study, we comprehensively profile gene-expression across IPF, COPD and “normal” lung tissue samples using next generation RNA-Seq. As part of this study, we are defining genes expressed in the lung transcriptome. We are also identifying disease associated changes in gene expression. Lately, we are integrating miRNA microarray data and RNA-Seq data to explore potential regulatory mechanisms that underlie disease-associated transcriptional networks.
