Math Testing

Open Houses
The importance of testing
In order to perform well in the academic classes, students must have strong basic math skills.
- In the fall semester course , GMS BT 110 Introduction to Biomedical Science, CityLab Academy students learn the math of solution-making (molarity and percent) and dilutions (C1V1-C2V2).
- Prior to beginning the fall semester, students are required to take a one-week introduction to Lab Math class to become more comfortable with scientific notation, metric system conversions, and basic algebraic equations.
- In the spring semester course, GMS BT 454 Cell Culture Techniques, students use the math they learned in the first semester for media preparation and cell density computations (counting, splitting, and plating cells, doubling times).
In addition to the math test, applicants will be assessed on their English at the time of their interview.
How to prepare for the math test
Often, applicants underestimate the test because of its simple problems and end up doing poorly. Please remember that you must pass both tests the first time you take it. If you fail this year, you will have to re-apply again next year to be considered. We strongly encourage all applicants to prepare by using the math review booklet as a guide. Please download the math review booklet from the link at the bottom of this page and practice, practice, practice!
What to expect at a test session
The math test is one hour in length. Calculators are NOT allowed. Cell phones are not permitted.
