Student Policy Guidelines
Students at Boston University
CityLab Academy students are registered as undergraduates of Boston University’s Metropolitan College. Students have access to all programs and benefits as any other BU MET student including email accounts, library access, and discounts at university stores.
The Faculty/Staff Team
Our goal is for every Academy student to successfully complete the program. The CityLab Academy faculty and staff are available to assist students with any academic or job-related questions or problems.
Assistance Available to Academy students
There are people and resources available to Academy students. In addition to the Academy staff, there are other groups within Boston University and the local Boston community which have programs to assist you. See the Resources section of the web site.
Textbooks/Supplies
Academic materials including textbooks, notebooks, and a calculator will be provided at no cost.
Grading
Each course instructor decides how a grade will be determined. You must receive a 2.0 or C grade in all courses to continue from the fall to spring semester and to receive a certificate.
Attendance
Academy students are expected to participate fully in all lectures, laboratories, special presentations and field trips. If the Academy faculty/staff believe that excessive absences or tardiness are affecting your progress, or disrupting classes, you may be dismissed from the program. If you are unable to attend a class, you are required to contact your instructor beforehand to explain why you will be late or absent.
Arrangements should be made for childcare through family, friends, or professional childcare centers. If you are having difficulty with this please ask the CityLab Academy Staff and they will discuss alternatives with you.
Students who are absent from class are responsible for the work missed and must make arrangements with the instructor to make up the work and complete any assignment. In the case of prolonged absence (due to illness or other unforeseeable problems), the student must meet with the instructor to resolve missed classwork.
Remember that employers seek punctuality and reliability of their employees. The Academy instructors and staff will look closely at your participation in the program before they recommend you for a job.
Academic Conduct
1. Philosophy of Discipline. Enforcing academic rules helps create the type of community in which learning can best take place. We want every student to be judged fairly, and not be evaluated poorly because of someone else’s dishonesty. Cheating, plagiarism (presenting someone elses work as your own) or any other type of dishonesty is not tolerated at Boston University.
2. Definition of Academic Misconduct. Academic misconduct is that conduct by which a student intentionally misrepresents his or her academic accomplishments, hurts other students’ chances of being judged fairly for their academic work, or is an accomplice in such an act.
3. Academic Misconduct will be dealt with on an individual basis.
