Application Process
What are the requirements?
- must be 18 years of age or older
- have legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- pass basic math test
What is the application process?
- attend an Open House or other information session
- download a math review booklet for math test preparation
- take the math test and pass with a grade of 80% or better (there are no retests);
- submit an Application by the deadline
- interview with CityLab Academy admissions staff and complete writing assessment
What does the application involve?
1. After completing the information form, there is typed Essay (1-2 pages) which answers the following questions:
- Why do you want to be in this program?
- What will this program allow you to achieve?
- What qualities do you have that make you a good candidate?
2. Two recommendations (forms are attached with application). We require two references from professionals such as science teachers, guidance counselors, or employers who know you well and can comment on your suitability for the Academy. Recommendations by friends, family or co-workers will not be accepted.
3. Official copies of your high school transcripts (or GED) as well as those from any college you may have attended.
4. Vaccination documentation – we will provide a check list (hepatitis B, chickenpox (Varicella), tetanus, MMR and a recent TB test).
Once accepted, it is required to attend a four day math session before the fall semester.
