Echocardiography

The Echocardiography Laboratory at Boston Medical Center provides state-of-the-art cardiac ultrasound imaging services including:

  • Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE)
  • Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE)
  • Intraoperative TEE
  • Exercise stress echocardiography
  • Pharmacological (dobutamine) stress echocardiography

The ICAEL-accredited Echocardiography Laboratory at Boston Medical Center under the directorship of Dr. Noyan Gokce, MD, FASE represents one of the highest volume centers in the Boston area performing over 12,000 studies annually. The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art Phillips IE 33, GE Vivid 7, and Philips CX-50 imaging systems furnished with the latest technological advances including 3-dimensional echo and strain imaging capability. Recognized faculty specialize in multiple aspects of clinical cardiac imaging including stress echocardiography, TEE, and use of contrast echocardiography for improved diagnostic ultrasound accuracy.

The Laboratory provides educational opportunities in basic and advanced (level 3) adult echocardiography including monthly rotations for cardiovascular fellows. The Laboratory also participates in the training of sonographers in collaboration with local accredited programs by offering practical student rotations. The Echocardiography Laboratory is also recognized for numerous physician initiated research projects and multiple-site investigations that involve a diverse range of cardiovascular conditions including obesity, amyloidosis, ischemic heart disease, congestive heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, and metabolic heart disease.
