Urology Interest Group

Urology is a surgical specialty of the genitourinary system involving the kidneys, bladder, ureters, urethra, and male reproductive organs. Notably, urology is a pioneer in minimally invasive robotic and laparoscopic surgeries. Common urological problems include urinary incontinence, urinary tract infections, kidney stones, overactive bladder, pelvis dysfunction, and benign prostatic hyperplasia as well as cancers of the genitourinary tract. According to the American Urological Association, there is a growing need for physicians in the field as more than 60% of all U.S. counties do not have a practicing urologist. The Urology Interest Group works with the Boston Medical Center Department of Urology to provide medical students with early exposure to urology through educational panels, hands-on workshops, and shadowing and research opportunities.
