Amyloidosis

The Amyloidosis Center at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine is an internationally recognized center of excellence and a global resource for doctors, researchers, patients, and families.

Founded in 1960 primarily for research, the center has since pioneered significant new treatments; within Boston Medical Center, it has developed the nation’s largest clinical program for treating systemic amyloid diseases. Researchers come from the departments of medicine, pathology, biochemistry, and neurology, and the center’s clinical team includes internists, hematologists, cardiologists, pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, neurologists, and other specialists. These basic science and clinical investigators seek to broaden our understanding of misfolded protein diseases and translate these findings into new therapies.

The center also provides diagnostic services, testing blood and tissue samples sent from around the world, and trains physicians and scientists in the field. Our doctors travel widely to educate other medical professionals, scientists, patients, and families about amyloidosis. Each year, physicians and scientists visit the center to exchange ideas or undergo training in amyloidosis research.
