Do you remember what motivated you to make your first gift to BUSM?
Part of my motivation was a family tradition. My father, Edwin Stanton, BUSM ’34, was a supporter. But I was motivated mainly by gratitude for my medical education.

Why do you continue to give to BUSM?
I have looked forward to going to my office every day of my now 36 years in practice. BUSM made this possible. I should add that I have a BU family. My wife Rebecca got a Master’s degree from the School of Law, and my children Emilie and Alexandre both got their BA undergraduate degrees from BU.

What would you tell current students about the importance of giving back to BUSM?
They can and will work very hard towards their Doctor of Medicine diploma, which for many will be their greatest achievement. In doing so, they will remember that they were chosen out of a field of highly qualified candidates.

Fond memory of BUSM:
The movie we saw on sexual education, and Bob Witzburg’s comment “this guy is a champion.”

Favorite professor or course at BUSM:
Flaviu Romanul, MD. He embodied the art and science of medicine, and inspired me to become a neurologist.

Other anecdotes/comments:
Eddie McCarthy in his long white coat, reassuring us that everything would be ok. Dr. McNary and Gross Anatomy. Nicknaming our cadaver “Charlie,” and finally learning that was his real name.
