Do you remember what motivated you to make your first gift to BUSM?
My gratitude to BUSM for giving me the opportunity to become a physician when getting into medical school (After World War II) was so extremely difficult and for the superb medical education, I received from a world-class faculty.

Why do you continue to give to BUSM?
My pride in being an alumnus of BUSM has increased through the years as I watch my school grow and flourish and continue to produce well-trained, caring, empathetic doctors, my son Robert, class of 1989 one example. It is important that I continue to contribute so that BUSM can attract the highest quality faculty and student body.

What would you tell current students about the importance of giving back to BUSM?
Always remember that you are fortunate to be part of a great institution. In order for BUSM to continue to thrive and grow even stronger, it requires a commitment from each and every student to give back. Without this commitment, BUSM cannot remain one of the best medical schools in the U.S.

Fond memory of BUSM:
C.P.C.-at Mallory Lecture Hall. Dr. Louis Weinstein to discuss a complicated case. He was a master clinician and always came up with the correct diagnosis. We all hoped he would be wrong one time. And it happened. The case was presented, Dr. Weinstein gave a superb discussion of the differential diagnosis and stated his diagnosis. Dr. Mallory then read the pathological autopsy diagnosis, and Dr. Weinstein was proven wrong. We were shocked but elated. Dr. Weinstein then went up to the podium and disputed the pathological diagnosis, telling Dr. Mallory that he could not possibly be correct. We were amazed but not surprised.

Favorite professor or course at BUSM:
Physiology. I was never very fond of Anatomy, but physiology was my favorite course. Learning how everything worked is what excited me about medicine. I remember a lecture by Dr. Arnold Rolman about acid-base that clarified and simplified a very confusing subject, the body quite an amazing engineering job to be able to maintain our PH within the normal range for 100 years.
