BUSM Seeks a Highly Qualified Faculty Member to Serve as Associate Dean for Medical Education (ADME)
An important role within the medical school, the ADME will:
- Lead and oversee all aspects of the MD curriculum including curriculum innovation, content, implementation, and assessment.
- Direct the Office of Medical Education (OME, formerly known as the Office of Academic Affairs) and supervise OME staff.
- Develop and coordinate all educational clinical affiliations and branch campuses.
- Work with the other deans and department chairs to facilitate execution of the planned MD educational program.
- Recruit and mentor a cadre of current faculty whose scholarship is medical education.
- Collaborate with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion to recruit and retain qualified educators from diverse backgrounds.
- Organize and supervise the staffing of all MD instructional faculty committees.
- Provide required annual LCME and medical school reports.
- Oversee policies, procedures and compliance with LCME MD curriculum and educational accreditation standards.
- Work with the Communications Office on an ongoing curriculum communications plan including maintenance of an up-to-date and relevant OME website.
- Serve as a resource for medical educators. Connect faculty members with resources throughout the medical campus, university and the affiliated hospitals.
- Work with the Office of Faculty Affairs to assist educational faculty to advance in academic rank.
- Develop and implement programs to enable departmental leadership to productively mentor faculty in their teaching roles.
- Meet with students as needed.
- Propose the candidates for the degree of Doctor of Medicine at the faculty meeting preceding graduation.
- Represent BUSM in regional and national medical education organizations.
- Reports to the Dean of School of Medicine and serves at the discretion of the dean.
- Chair the Medical Education Committee.
- Serve on the Executive Committee and the Student Evaluation and Promotions Committee.
Qualifications:
- MD degree and plan to continue at least 20% FTE in clinical care.
- Academic credentials that qualify for an assistant, associate or full professor rank.
- Established credentials and experience in medical education, leadership and administration.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge and experience of national trends in medical education and effective pedagogy.
- Experience in developing and mentoring medical educators.
- Strong collaborative, oral and written communication skills and commitment to teamwork.
- Ability to mentor and advise faculty members and develop programs and materials that meet student needs.
- In good standing with all applicable licensing boards and agencies.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
