Jonathan Woodson, MD

COM_j_WoodsonJonathan Woodson, MD, leads the University-wide Institute for Health System Innovation and Policy. He serves as Larz Anderson Professor in Management and Professor of the Practice at the Questrom School of Business, and holds joint appointments as Professor of Surgery at the School of Medicine and Professor of Health Law, Policy and Management at the School of Public Health.

Dr. Woodson holds the rank of brigadier general in the US Army Reserves and served from 2010 to 2016 as assistant secretary of defense for health affairs in the US Department of Defense. There, he was the principal advisor to the Secretary of Defense for all health and force health protection issues while ensuring the effective execution of the Department’s medical mission.

Prior to his time in the Department of Defense, Dr. Woodson served as professor of surgery and associate dean for students, diversity, and multicultural affairs at the School of Medicine, and was a senior attending vascular surgeon at Boston Medical Center.
