Veronica Catanese, MD, MBA, is the co-secretary of the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) and senior director of accreditation services at the AAMC. She leads the AAMC’s accreditation services unit and collaborates with her counterpart at the American Medical Association to accredit U.S. MD-granting medical schools.
Catanese most recently served as vice dean, dean for academic affairs, and principal business officer and professor of medicine at Hofstra. Previously, she was a tenured faculty member in the departments of medicine and cell biology at NYU School of Medicine, and senior associate dean for education and student affairs.
Catanese served with the American Federation for Medical Research, as a national councilor, public policy chair, president, and foundation president, as well as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Investigative Medicine. She has chaired an NIH biomedical technology transfer study section, and co-chaired the training subcommittee of the NIH Director’s Clinical Research Roadmap working group
She received her BA from Wellesley and her MD (AOA) and MBA from NYU. She completed her residency (as chief resident) in internal medicine and endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism a fellowship at NYU, followed by a research fellowship at Joslin Diabetes Center.
