Saint-Hilaire Appointed ad interim Chief and Chair of Neurology

Marie-Helene Saint-Hilaire, MD, FRCPC, FAAN, Associate Professor of Neurology, has been appointed Chief of Neurology at Boston Medical Center and Chair of the Department of Neurology at Boston University School of Medicine ad interim effective immediately.

Saint-Hilaire, recruited in 1988, directs the BMC Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center and the American Parkinson Disease Association Advanced Center for Parkinson Research at BUSM.

Saint-Hilaire is an expert on the diagnosis and management of neurological movement disorders, and on improving the quality of life of Parkinson’s Disease patients and their families. Her research focus is new therapies to treat symptoms and complications and modify disease progression and to determine environmental and genetic causes of Parkinson’s Disease. Dr. Saint-Hilaire has participated in more than 100 research trials and has written more than 100 articles and book chapters. She frequently collaborates with other disciplines to design and implement clinical trials.

Saint-Hilaire is a member of the Parkinson Study Group (PSG) and the Huntington Study Group (HSG). She directs the Movement Disorder Fellowship Program and has received three teaching awards and a mentorship award from the neurology residents.

She serves on the editorial board of Advances in Parkinson’s Disease and is the Medical Director of the American Parkinson Disease Association Information and Referral Center.

Saint-Hilaire received her MD from the Universite de Montreal. She completed her neurology residency at the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI), followed by a three-year fellowship (one year each) in Paris with Pr. Yves Agid, at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital with Dr. Stanley Fahn, and at Boston University with Dr. Robert Feldman.
