Activities Fair Helps Students Forge New Relationships, Build Skills

In an effort to help incoming students learn more about student activities and organizations on the Medical Campus, BUSM sponsored a Student Activities Fair. More than 150 first-year BUSM students attended the event held Monday, Aug. 17 in Hiebert Lounge.

Fifty-four student activities and organizations, ranging from the American Heart Association to the Women’s Health Initiative participated in the fair, which was coordinated by the BUSM Office of Student Affairs (OSA) under the direction of Angela Jackson, MD, associate dean of Student Affairs.

“This activity fair exposes us to so many new opportunities on campus,” said Rachita Gupta, BUSM ’19. “From academic-based organizations to health and wellness activities, this event covers it all.”

“We believe that participation in student activities is complimentary to the academic curriculum,” said John Polk, MD, EdM, assistant dean OSA. “Students can develop skills useful in healthcare such as leadership, collaboration, communication, and critical and creative thinking. These skills will be essential in addressing the adaptive challenges they will face in their personal and professional lives.
