Research Interests:

THE FUNCTIONAL NEUROANATOMY OF THE BASAL GANGLIA AND THE NEUROBIOLOGICAL BASIS OF MOTOR CONTROL, SENSORI-MOTOR INTEGRATION AND LEARNING.

Our research focuses on the functional neuroanatomy of the basal ganglia and the neurobiological basis of motor control, sensori-motor integration and learning. We are particularly interested in the mechanisms of regulation of GABAergic neurons in the basal ganglia in the normal brain and in experimental models of Parkinson’s disease. Experimental approaches include analysis of mRNA/protein expression by quantitative in situ hybridization histochemistry and immunohistochemistry and analysis of behavioral motor activity following the in vivo pharmacological manipulation of neurotransmitter systems.
