Research Interests:

The major research goals are elucidation of the function of the hippocampus. Specific projects which are available for graduate students include: 1.) Hippocampal and cortical coding, a study to assess the functional correlates of single neuron and neuronal ensemble activity in the cortex and hippocampus of rats performing long-term memory tasks, 2.) Hippocampal lesions and long-term memory, a project to characterize the long-term memory deficit following lesions of the hippocampus and parahippocampal region in rats, 3.) The effect of aging on hippocampal behavioral physiology and memory performance in rats, 4.) The neural firing patterns of genetically altered mice with deficiencies of long-term potentiation (LTP) in the hippocampus, 5.) A study to test the hypothesis that schizophrenia is associated with decreased function of corticolimbic NMDA receptors.
