    • Tim Norman, PhD Candidate in Alan Fine’s Lab gave an oral presentation and presented a poster at the Gordon Research Conferences on Lymphatics titled “Origins, maturation, and regeneration of the pulmonary lymphatic endothelium” on March 19th in Ventura, California
    • Ivana Delalle is excited to be giving a platform presentation, “Exosomal miR-149 and miR-29c as Candidates for Bipolar Disorder Biomarkers” at the 2nd International Symposium on Microgenomics in Paris, France; June 2016
    • Maria Panchenko was invited to write an expert review about family of JADE genes and corresponding proteins. The review was accepted and will be published in GENE.

    • Mark Wojnarowicz, PhD Candidate in the Goldstein Lab has won a School of Medicine PhD Award from the 2016 Graduate Research Symposium. His poster title was “Blood-Brain Barrier Dysfunction, Neuroinflammation, and Early Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy-Linked Neuropathology in a Mouse Model of Concussive Impact Neurotrauma.” The Symposium held on April 11th at Metcalf Hall was sponsored by the Office of the Provost

      • Nancy Miller, MD had several events in April also, including:
        • Invited speaker at the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science-Central New England (ASCLS-CNE) convention, April 26-28, Providence, RI, where she presented cases from the clinical microbiology laboratory entitled:  “From the Bench: A potpourri of challenges, conundrums, and lessons learned”
        • Miller was also the Event co-chair for the 1st joint meeting of the Northeast Association for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Disease (NACMID) and the Northeast Branch-American Society for Microbiology (NEB-ASM), April 11-12, Boxborough, MA.
        • Miller is a Laboratory Medical Director for the now-approved Gilead Foundation grant: BMC HCV Screening, Confirmation and Linkage Initiative, (Jonathan Hall, Principal Investigator)
      • Russek Awards 2016:
        • Barbara Slack, Pathology Department Russek Awards Committee, is pleased to announce that this year’s H.I. Russek Student Achievement Award recipients in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine are:
          • First Prize – Caitlin Miller (Advisor: Rahm Gummuluru)
          • Second Prize – Elizabeth Moses (Advisor: Avrum Spira)
        • Congratulations to the award winners, and thank you to everyone who submitted abstracts for the poster session. Russek Day will be held on Friday, May 6th in the Hiebert Lounge (L building, 14th floor). The keynote speaker this year will be Dr. James Bradner, the new President of the Biomedical Institutes of Novartis. Posters will be available for viewing throughout the day, and slide presentations by the first prize winners will take place in the afternoon. I hope everyone will be able to attend.
