Program Objectives

1. Develop a plan that will guide emergency medical personnel in their response to accidents involving victim exposure to ionizing radiation. It will be assumed that some victims have suffered traumatic injuries.

2. Develop a plan that will minimize the potential for exposure of the health care team to ionizing radiation during response to a radiation accident.

3. Develop a plan that will facilitate interregional cooperation between emergency medical personnel when a radiation accident involves victims beyond international borders.

4. Train emergency medical personnel to use telecommunication technology links to rapidly access expert assistance during radiation accidents.

5. Prepare participating countries to participate in an interregional radiation accident exercise.
