Biochemistry Student Research Day
On December 5th, 2008 the BSO held it’s second annual Biochemistry Student Research Day. Students from all different years presented their work in a poster presentation that followed a departmental lunch at Hiebert Lounge. Pictures of Event Here!
Student Seminars
The BSO holds monthly student seminars where a student presents his work to other students over pizza and soda. The format is very informal and informative.
Some of our most recent student seminars include:
- “The effect of serum amyloid A on extracellular matrix synthesis and degradation” by Stephanie Seidl, from the Schreiber Lab
- “The Role of A2bAR in atherosclerosis” by Milka Koupenova-Zamor, from the Ravid Lab.
- “Nutlin-3 affects Rb protein expression and inhibits muscle cell differentiation” by Erica Walsh, from the Xiao Lab.
- “Neutrophil Elastase cleaves VEGF to generate a fragment with altered activities” by Elma Kurtagic, from the Nugent Lab.
- “Proteomic characterization of insulin-sensitive GLUT4 storage vesicles” by Mark Jedrychowski, from the Pilch Lab.
Dr. Franzblau’s Good-bye Party
This past summer the BSO held a farewell party in honor of Dr. Carl Franzblau, who will be stepping down as Chair of the Department of Biochemistry at the end of August. We celebrated with the entire department Dr. Franzblau’s commitment to education and support of students.
