PPP for WinXP on domain

PPP for Microsoft 

Windows XP Professional

Note to the user: Please read through this guide prior to setting up your PPP connection. If you have any questions or concerns regarding  the PPP setup, please contact our HelpDesk (bumchelp@bu.edu or 617-638-5914)

Prerequisites:

  • Have an established BUMC account
  • Have an established BU/ACS account
  • Have a working phone modem

 

  1. Click on Start and go to Control Panel

  2.  

  3. Locate and open Network and Internet Connections from the Control Panel
      

  4.  

  5. Once opened, locate and open Create a new connection
      

  6.  

  7. You may get a pop-up screen asking you to configure your Location Information (Skip to Step 5 if you do not get the screen). Click HERE to view directions on how to configure it

  8.  

  9. You will be greeted by a Welcome screen. Click on the Next button

  10.  

  11. Under the Network Connection Type select the second option: Connect to the Internet and click on Next

  13. Under Getting Ready, select the second option: Set up my connection manually and click on Next

  14. Under Internet Connection select the first option: Connect using a dial-up modem

  15.  

  16. Under Connection Name, type in BUMC PPP for the ISP Name and click on Next

  17.  

  18. Under the Phone Number to Dial screen type in 6173781111 for the Phone Number and click on Next

  19.  

  20. Under the Connection Availability screen select the second option: My use only and click on Next

    Note: If you want other users of your computer to use the PPP connection then select Anyone’s use

  21.  

  22. You will receive the Completing the New Connection Wizard screen, click on Finish

  23.  

  24. After clicking on Finish the Connect to BUMC PPP screen should appear.

  26. You will be brought back to the Connect BUMC PPP screen. For the User name type in your BUMC User Name, for the Password field enter in your password.

    Note: You may want to check off the save password box so you will not be prompted for your password each time you use the PPP connection. If you do save your password, be sure to set it to Me Only

  27. You are now connected to BUMC via PPP
