How To Connect to the Y drive on BUMC

 

Note to the user: Please read through this guide prior to setting up your connection. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this process, please contact our HelpDesk (bumchelp@bu.edu or 617-638-5914).

Prerequisites:

  • Have an established BUMC account
  • Have an established Internet Connection
  • Logged into BUMC domain (only applies to Windows 95/98/Me)
  • Using a Microsoft Windows Operating System, i.e. Win95/98/ME/2000/XP

 

  1. Locate and Right Click My Computer. The location of My Computer varies on the operating system being used. For Windows 95/98/ME/NT4/2000, it can be found on the desktop. For Windows XP Home/Professional, it can be found in the Start Menu 
  2. After Right Clicking My Computer, select Map Network Drive and a new screen pops up
  3. The top field has letters to choose from, from the list pick the letter Y
  4. In the bottom field type in the following: \\ad.bu.edu\bumcfiles\
  5. Now check off the Reconnect at logon option
  6. Skip to Step 8 if you are using Windows 95/98/Me/XP. Users of Windows 2000, click on Connect using different user name
  7. Enter in AD\your_BU_user_name followed by your BU Kerberos password and click OK
  8. Click on Finish
  9. Now open My Computer. You will see the Y drive connected
