ACS Account
What is an ACS account?
Why would I want an ACS account?
How do I get an ACS account?
How to test whether your ACS account works?
- An ACS account and associated Kerberos password provide you with access to BU resources such as email, website creation, and web-based applications. Your ACS account is hosted and managed by Charles River Campus Information Technology.
- Sometimes your ACS account is referred to as your BU account or BU email account.
- You can use Outlook, Netscape, MAC Mail, or BU’s web-based email program called Horde to access this account
- Your BU email address is loginname@bu.edu; If your email address is jdoe@bu.edu your login name is jdoe. You will be choosing a Kerberos password to access this account. This login name is also used as your BUMC username if you receive a BUMC account. This is why an ACS account is needed before a BUMC account can be created.
Why would I want an ACS account?
- It gives me access to BU email
- It gives me the ability to create my own website on people.bu.edu
- It gives me access to various web based applications
- If you are an employee on the BU Medical Campus, it is a prerequisite for getting access to BUMC resources on the network, including an Outlook/Exchange email account
-
The eligibility for accounts can be found at the following website: http://www.bu.edu/computing/accounts/requirements/
-
If eligible, fill out the online form at: http://www.bu.edu/computing/accounts/apply/individual.html . When setting up the account make sure the Kerberos password you choose has only 10-14 characters. This is contrary to the ACS instructions of 10-15 character size. After this form is done, follow the instructions and go to the Library on the 11th floor of the Instructional Building (L) 8-5433 or to your UIS Data Security Administrator by contacting the Help Desk (8-5914 or bumchelp@bu.edu ). Bring your BUID. In this document this password will be called your ACS password.
-
For other types of accounts (departmental, guest, etc) go to: http://www.bu.edu/computing/accounts/apply/ and click on the type of account needed. For questions contact the Alumni Medical Library or the Help Desk.
