BlackBoard 8: Medical Campus Support
To request, create, and learn how to manage a BlackBoard 8 site, visit WebCentral. Networked Information Services at the Charles River Campus supports and maintains the BlackBoard 8 server and provides online resources and training at WebCentral.
A course manager must first request a BlackBoard site at One Help by submitting the appropriate form on this page:
http://www.bu.edu/help/blackboard/
The following information is required to complete the BlackBoard request:
- Course name, and number if applicable;
- URL of BlackBoard site;
- class year.
Medical Campus faculty may direct BlackBoard 8 questions and consultative services to one of the following:
- School of Public Health (SPH) contact Rob Schadt.
- School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) contact Ibrahim Kachouh.
- School of Medicine (MED) and Division of Graduate Medical Sciences (GMS) faculty may contact the BUMC OIT Help Desk.
Any questions regarding rosters for courses in the School of Medicine should be directed to the Office of the Registrar.
BUMC OIT provides the following support to School of Medicine faculty for BlackBoard 8 (and for CourseInfo in the interim):
- Direct faculty to appropriate online resources and URLs for copying sites, creating new sites, or re-categorizing sites.
- Troubleshooting accounts for faculty and students, who have difficulty logging into their BlackBoard 8 site.
- Phone support for browser compatibility issues or operating system problems.
- Assist faculty with pre-requisites and processes for BMC residents/employees getting BU user names that are required before they can obtain access to BlackBoard 8.
- Add TAs, graders, course builders, and additional instructors to courses.
- Coordinate (both with CRC as well as with others at BUMC) training sessions, as demands arise.
To view Boston University online courses go to: BlackBoard.bu.edu or CourseInfo.bu.edu
(Note: Some courses are restricted to enrolled students only, per the instructor’s preference.)
For on-line support resources, including an instructor’s manual, which is available 24 hours a day, go to Courseware Help.

Note: BlackBoard 8 is replacing CourseInfo 4, which has been in existence since 1999 at Boston University. CourseInfo 4 will eventually no longer be available. BlackBoard 8 is a newer product that offers many new features and functionality that were not present in CourseInfo 4. It is highly recommended that all courses be migrated from CourseInfo 4 to BlackBoard 8 during the next semester that a course is taught.
