BUMC IT Resources for New Employees
In order for your new employee to access BUMC network and computing resources, review the following options and proceed accordingly.
**IMPORTANT** A BU e-mail account is a prerequisite for gaining access to resources and services. If your new employee has not yet received a BU e-mail account, they may obtain one by visiting either BUMC IT (8-5914 – please call first) or the Medical School Library computer lab (8-5433). A picture ID is required.
The following directions pertain only to BUMC employees – there may be different procedures for non-BU employees.
Please submit these requests as soon as possible to expedite access to resources and services.

Access to department files stored on the Y drive. Outlook/Exchange email. |
PC set up |
Set up a new computer on the BUMC network, install and update McAfee virus scan with Spyware detection, join the computer to the domain, configure the e-mail for Exchange. |
Data Jack/Port |
An active data jack/port allows you to connect a computer to access the internet and BUMC network. |
Mainframe/UIS account including a SecurID card |
This is an account that provides designated access to authorized BU staff and faculty for accessing online BU systems, such as purchasing, financial access and payroll. |
INSPIR account

INSPIR is a web-based software program that supports the creation, routing, review, signing, amending, reporting, and auditing of all research protocols. (Your new employee’s U# and BU login need to be listed.) |
